Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold for $2,400 sold out within minutes
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was announced last week and went on sale in South Korea yesterday. It costs 3,590,400 KRW, which, at the current exchange rate, is approximately €2,070 or $2,400. Despite the high price and the fact that it’s a first-generation product, the TriFold sold out at all retail outlets within minutes. Long lines of people also formed outside some Samsung stores in Korea, all waiting for the triple-folding smartphone.
Samsung has not yet announced how many units of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold have been sold. However, you can sign up on the South Korean website to be notified as soon as the foldable device is available again.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is available in Crafted Black with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. Samsung has confirmed that the smartphone will also be available in China, Taiwan, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and the USA. However, specific dates for availability in these markets are not yet known.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: Replacement display will be expensive
Furthermore, the cost of replacing the inner foldable display of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has just been revealed. In Korea, this repair costs at least 1,657,500 KRW (957 euros/1,122 US dollars), making it officially the most expensive display replacement of any smartphone. Samsung smartphones of all time. But given the type of display, that’s not really surprising.
Fortunately, Samsung is offering buyers a one-time 50% discount on screen repairs. And if anyone ever needed a 50% discount on a repair, it’s surely someone whose TriFold’s foldable screen broke.
The cover display costs only 137,000 KRW, or roughly €79/US$92, which seems comparatively inexpensive. This is how complex (and therefore expensive) a double-folding screen and its assembly and disassembly are these days. Incidentally, just this week, a TriFold prototype with four cameras has surfaced. Samsung may therefore already be planning its next surprise.
