Samsung Galaxy S25: Official One UI 8 rollout started
The wait is finally over. If you own a Samsung Galaxy S25 series phone, you should look out for an OTA update notification for One UI 8. Please note that the rollout is phased and will not be available in all markets and for all devices at the same time. Therefore, some patience is still required.
Samsung has also published an official list of devices that will receive the One UI 8 update “later this year.” Samsung does not guarantee that all One UI 8 features will be available on every eligible model, nor will all features be available in all markets. The said list is as follows:

Samsung highlights the ability of One UI 8 to recognize user context and proactively offer suggestions that support the user’s everyday life. New features include the Now Bar, which displays app activity in real time, especially the media player status. Further third-party integrations are in the pipeline.
Then there’s Now Brief in One UI 8, a user interface that delivers personalized daily updates on things like traffic and reminders, as well as entries from Samsung Moments. Now Brief also displays things like music and video suggestions based on your interests. Of course, Samsung continues its close collaboration with Google and integrates Gemini Live and Circle to Search.
One UI 8 with Sandbox and Knox Matrix
Of course, the increased use of AI also brings with it additional privacy concerns, which Samsung is addressing as best it can. One UI 8 introduces Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which, among other things, runs apps in its own isolated sandbox environment and protects your sensitive data from them. There’s also the Knox Matrix, which automatically logs risky devices off your Samsung account.
One UI 8 also promises to better adapt to different device shapes, especially foldable devices. There’s a new AI Results view that displays AI results in a floating or split view. You can also drag and drop AI-generated content like text and images from the AI Results view into other apps, such as the floating or split view.
And last but not least, One UI 8, of course, brings Samsung’s much-acclaimed new clock design, which adapts to the user’s wallpaper and automatically stretches and wraps around contours and things like faces.
One UI 8 and Galaxy AI
A few years ago, Samsung launched the first 5G smartphone – more recently, the company has been focusing on another technology. This infographic describes Samsung’s journey from the world’s first AI smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, to today. While it’s been less than two years, a lot has happened in the meantime.
The Galaxy S24 series introduced features such as real-time two-way translation, writing assistance (grammar, style, summarization, and transcription), and Google Circle to Search. Initially, 13 languages were supported, with three more added a few months later.
Foldable devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and the Galaxy Z Flip6 use their two screens for convenient features like the interpreter—displaying one language on one side and another on the other with real-time translation. Four more languages will be supported by the end of 2024.
2025 brought multimodal AI—that is, AI that can process multiple data types simultaneously, e.g., language. Such as text, images, video, and audio. Samsung’s updated platform also introduced AI agents that can operate across apps. One UI also added support for Now Brief and Gemini.
The latest version of One UI was released with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7. It improved multimodal capabilities and allowed you to share your screen and camera with Gemini Live and discuss what you see. Samsung also worked with Google and Qualcomm to improve Bixby.
And that’s not all: Samsung Galaxy Watches have supported Galaxy AI since the One UI 6 Watch, and the Galaxy Book laptops are also on board.
