Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge will not get a Si/C battery after all
Although the Galaxy S25 Edge only launched a few months ago, rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge have been churning practically since day one of its predecessor’s debut. Recent information suggests that the successor will launch alongside the other S26 models, replacing the Plus model.
The latest leak comes from the Chinese 3C agency, which has released battery details for the Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge. Unfortunately, this isn’t good news—it’s not good news. Previous rumors about a possible battery upgrade seem to have been false, at least as far as the battery technology is concerned. According to the 3C listing, Samsung will stick with the lithium-ion technology, which the Korean company has been using for decades, for another year and will only switch to silicon-carbon (Si/C) batteries next year.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge will stick with Li-ion battery
Most competitors are already switching to silicon-carbon batteries, as they offer higher energy density and thus enable either higher capacity in the same size or an equally powerful but more compact battery. Samsung smartphones will apparently have to wait a little longer in this regard.
The last report about the battery capacity of allegedly 4,400 mAh was apparently also false. Nevertheless, Samsung will slightly increase the battery capacity, from 3,900 mAh this year to at least 4,200 mAh in the Galaxy S26 Edge. That’s better than nothing and will certainly extend battery life slightly. A silicon-carbon battery would likely store around 5,000 mAh in the same space.
