Apple AirPods Pro 3 with heart rate monitoring before launch
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg predicts that the new Apple AirPods Pro 3 will launch this year. The earbuds will have an important new feature: heart rate monitoring. Here’s the exact wording from his Power On newsletter:
„As for other Apple devices, there’s a lot planned for the fall—but many of the new products are just incremental upgrades.[…] There will be updates to the Apple Watch, faster Vision Pro headsets, and iPad Pros with the M5 processor. Also expected are new AirPods Pro earbuds (I reported earlier this year that Apple was working on a pair with heart rate monitoring), as well as HomePod Minis and Apple TV set-top boxes.

Apple already introduced a heart rate monitoring feature on the Powerbeats Pro 2 earlier this year. When both Beats earphones are in your ears and heart rate monitoring is activated, Apple says optical LED sensors pulse over 100 times per second to measure heart rate via blood flow. The feature integrates with popular fitness apps to collect data during workouts and sync it with the Apple Health app on the iPhone.
The feature is based on the heart rate sensor technology of the Apple Watch. According to Apple, if someone wears both Powerbeats Pro 2 and an Apple Watch, apps will use the Apple Watch’s heart rate data by default. This will likely also be the case with the new Apple AirPods Pro 3.

Beyond heart rate monitoring, the Apple AirPods Pro 3 will likely offer improved sound quality, improved active noise cancellation, design changes, and more.
The current AirPods Pro 2 were launched in September 2022. launched and updated in September 2023 with a USB-C charging case and some other improvements.
