Apple Smart Glasses and Vision Pro 2 from 2027
Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has published a new roadmap forecast for Apple’s next smart glasses. The Californian company is apparently fully committed to Apple Smart Glasses and is currently developing four models. The first model will be a competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta and will feature camera and video recording capabilities, speakers, a voice-activated user interface, and AI features.
Mass production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027. Kuo predicts that Apple will ship three to five million units in 2027. The first-generation Apple Smart Glasses will be available in a variety of temple and frame materials. Apple’s first smart glasses product line is also expected to drive demand for smart glasses from other brands. 10 million deliveries of this product category are expected to be possible by 2027.
In addition to Apple Smart Glasses, the report also states that Extended Reality (XR) glasses with liquid crystal-on-silicon (LCoS) displays, voice control, and gesture control are in the works. Series production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2028.
Apple Smart Glasses are just the beginning
Kuo also mentions an additional pair of glasses as a “display accessory” that can be connected to Apple devices, including the iPhone. Series production was scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026, but was paused due to further developments.
The Apple Vision Pro series also receives new models with the Apple M5 chipset and an updated visionOS 3 with Eye Focus. Mass production is expected to begin in the third quarter (July-September), with an expected 150,000 to 200,000 units, and the devices will be launched before the end of this year.
Apple apparently won’t launch a new Vision device in 2026, but Kuo believes at least three new headsets are in development, launching in 2027 and Set to come onto the market in 2028.
The Vision Air is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2027. A lightweight body that is 40% lighter than the Vision Pro (600-650 grams). It will feature an iPhone processor, a magnesium alloy body, fewer sensors, and a plastic exterior to reduce weight. This version is likely to be more popular with consumers and, of course, be available at a lower starting price.
The Apple Vision Pro 2 is also expected to be weight-reduced. Here, however, Apple is sticking with its premium claim and, according to the latest leak, is opting for a titanium casing.
The second generation of the Vision Pro is scheduled to go into production in the second quarter of 2028 and will feature a revised design, a new M-series chip, a lighter design, and a lower price.
