vivo X Fold5 with 6,000 mAh battery and IP69+ protection is here
The vivo X Fold5 is here—thinner, more powerful, and more robust than its predecessor. It was unveiled today in China and will hopefully follow the X Fold3 Pro and also embark on a global tour. The new model features the same display size: 6.53 inches on the front and 8.03 inches on the interior. The internal display is now equipped with a Zeiss Master Color Screen and features second-generation tempered glass.
The vivo X Fold5 has become slimmer – the Titanium version measures 9.2 mm folded and 4.3 mm unfolded and weighs slightly less at 217 g. The White and Green Pine versions are slightly thicker and heavier at 9.7 mm folded/4.55 mm unfolded and 226 g. For comparison: The vivo X Fold3 (thinner and lighter than the X Fold3 Pro) measures 10.2 mm/4.7 mm and weighed 219 g. The hinge is made of high-strength steel and carbon fiber, making it particularly durable yet lightweight.
The X Fold5 is the first foldable device with the highest water resistance ratings – IPX8 (submersion) and IPX9+ (jet water). It is IP5X dust-resistant and can operate in very cold environments down to -20°C. The impressive engineering feat goes even further. This is also the foldable smartphone with the largest battery to date – 6,000 mAh (divided between two Si/C cells with capacities of 3,275 mAh and 2,725 mAh).
In addition to the 80-watt wired charging, Vivo engineers have also found space for fast wireless charging at 40 watts.
Back to the displays: The inner panel is a LTPO-OLED with 120 Hz refresh frequency, a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels (aspect ratio 10.1: 9) and 10-bit colors. The maximum local brightness is 4,500 nits.
Triple 50 MP-Zeiss cameras on the back of the Vivo X Fold5
The cameras have a 50-MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch Sony-Imy-IMX921 sensor and a Zeiss T*coated F/1.57 lens with OIS. The ZEISS Super-Tele lens is a triple periscop lens (f/2.55) with OIS and a 50 MP Sony-IMX882 sensor with 1/1.95-inch. The ultra-wake angle lens has a third 50 MP sensor (1/2.75 inches) and a 15 mm-F/2.05 lens, also with Zeiss T*coating.
The X Fold5 offers 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 (BE), Bluetooth 5.4 (Aptx HD and Lossless, LDAC, LHDC), NFC and network-independent text and language transmission via Bluetooth. Up to 1 km range. The USB-C connection supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbit/s) and DisplayPort for video edition.
The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3—a chip that’s two generations old in just a few months. It’s paired with 12 GB/16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB/512 GB/1 TB UFS 4.1 storage.
The older chipset is a bit disappointing, and the display and camera upgrades aren’t groundbreaking. But the battery upgrades, the top-level IP rating, and the slimmer body are strong pluses.
Furthermore, the vivo X Fold5 isn’t all that expensive for a foldable device. The 12 GB/256 GB variant starts at 7,000 CNY. For comparison, the Oppo Find N5 with 12 GB/256 GB costs 9,000 CNY. Prices for all storage options can be found in the table below.

The vivo X Fold5 is currently available for pre-order from the official online store in China. Sales will start next week on July 2nd.
