Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate: First foldable notebook is here

In addition to the nova 14 series, Huawei today also introduced two new laptops. First, the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate, an 18-inch display in the body of a 13-inch laptop – Huawei brings its foldable technology to the notebook form factor. The other is the 14.2-inch Huawei MateBook Pro.
Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate
The Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate runs on HarmonyOS PC and offers various operating modes.

The device can be opened 90° and displays a virtual keyboard, similar to a conventional laptop. It can also be fully opened to offer an 18-inch display in portrait or landscape format thanks to the integrated stand.

The Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate is thin and light. It weighs 1.16 kg and measures 14.9 mm when closed. When opened, it’s only 7.3 mm thick – Huawei uses an ultra-thin circuit board and a three-layer aluminum structure to accommodate everything while still ensuring stability.

A vapor chamber leads to two super-slim fans that cool the chipset of the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate. The exact chip is, as usual, Huawei’s secret. Only the 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB/2 TB SSD are known.

The display has a 4:3 aspect ratio when opened (3,296 x 2,472 pixels) and a 3:2 aspect ratio in laptop format (2,472 x 1,648 pixels resolution). It is a dual-layer OLED LTPO panel with a bright 1,600 nits and 1,440 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. The dual-layer structure reduces power consumption by 30% while tripling the expected lifespan of the panel. It is protected by a non-Newtonian fluid and a carbon fiber support layer.

By the way, you don’t have to use the virtual keyboard. Huawei has developed an ultra-thin 5 mm wireless keyboard with 1.5 mm key travel. It is made of an aluminum alloy and weighs 290 g, giving the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate a total weight of 1.45 kg. The Fold Ultimate is available in three colors with different surface textures. The wireless keyboard is available in matching colors.
The notebook has a 74.69 Wh battery and two USB-C ports (one on the top and one on the right). Thanks to six speakers and four microphones, it can be used in any orientation. Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2. The notebook comes with the keyboard, matching carrying cases, a 140-watt USB-C charger, and the matching cable.
The Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate is now available for pre-order in China via Vmall and will be available from June 6th. The 32GB/1TB model costs 24,000 CNY (€2,950/$3,330/₹284,300). The 32GB/2TB variant is priced at 27,000 CNY.
Huawei MateBook Pro
Also unveiled today was the Huawei MateBook Pro. It’s a 14.2-inch notebook with a 3:2 OLED display with a resolution of 3,120 x 2,080 pixels, 24/32GB of RAM, and a 512GB/1TB/2TB SSD. There’s also a 70 Wh battery and three USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one of which offers up to 66 watts of charging power.

The Huawei MateBook Pro weighs just 970 g, is 13.5 mm thick, and will also be released on June 6 at a price of 8,000 CNY (985 €/1,110 $/95,000 ₹). This price includes the base model with 24 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.
