Huawei’s disconnection from Western technology continues. The latest project brings the Chinese’s own operating system to PCs and notebooks – HarmonyOS PC (or „Hongmeng Computer“ for the Chinese market) is here, Huawei’s own Computer operating system.

The unveiling was made during Huawei’s HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication Event by Zhu Dongdong, Huawei’s president of tablets and PCs. The basis is the HarmonyOS kernel, the Ark Engine for graphics and UI performance, the StarShield architecture for security and various other backend components.

The HarmonyOS ecosystem includes more than 150 exclusive apps and integration of more than 2,000 universal ecosystem apps. There is a built-in WPS office and various apps to meet basic computing needs.

HarmonyOS PC supports more than 1,000 devices

HarmonyOS Experience offers support for more than 1,000 external devices – 800 standard peripherals and 20 device categories such as keyboards, mice and monitors. There are also more than 200 secondary devices such as printers, scanners and more.

In addition, HarmonyOS PC of course has comprehensive AI integration. Huawei hasn’t revealed much about the user interface. In a video the company posted on its Weibo account, the operating system has a dock with icons at the bottom center of the home screen, similar to Apple’s macOS.

Huawei’s new operating system will be released on May 19.
