Diablo 4 cow level has finally been found

After years of searching, the hunt for the secret cow level of Diablo 4 is finally over – and the reward is undoubtedly the most absurd item in Diablo history.

Although developer Blizzard vehemently denied the existence of the Cow Level, the search for it in Diablo 4 began immediately after the game’s release in 2023. For the past three years, players have collected mysterious items associated with the Cow Level. These included tasks such as killing 666 cows, hidden timers, and puzzles that led players across the world of Diablo 4. However, all the items found at the end of these trails had no immediate use and led nowhere.
That changed with the release of the new Diablo 4 expansion “Lord of Hatred” and the introduction of the Horadric Cube. By combining items such as the Stamina Potion and the Rusty Bardiche (both references to the cow level from Diablo 2), as well as a new item, the Hand of Neyrelle, players could reach a new island off the coast of Skovos. In a cellar on the deserted island, there is a circle of cows, apparently preparing for a magical ritual.

But that’s only one step. The island offered further clues, and the puzzle hunters of the Diablo 4 Discord server “Not Finding A Cow Level” didn’t take long to figure out what to do. After unlocking the boat to the island off Skovos, players who have already completed the previous steps must return to a shrine at the Kyovashad gatehouse and carve “Greed” onto a tablet. From there, a new message can be found at a location west of Skovos, marked on a map fragment: “Knowing it existed wasn’t enough. I wanted more. I needed more. To see with my own eyes.”
Upon returning to the island, the cows can be defeated in the form of a summoning circle (apparently only on Tuesdays), finally opening a gate to the fabled secret Cow Level. Inside, players will find exactly what they expect: hordes of upright-walking cows armed with bardices, similar to those found in the Cow Level of previous Diablo games. Those who explore long enough will encounter a new boss, the Cow King, and receive the true reward for solving this years-long puzzle.
The cow level itself isn’t particularly exciting. There are only a few enemies, and the loot the cows drop isn’t exactly thrilling. But the reward for defeating the Cow King, the Cow King’s Crown, is truly breathtaking in its absurdity.
This is a mythic helm with a different, quirky affix for each day of the week – each a tongue-in-cheek nod to the early days of Diablo 4, when item modifiers were extremely specific and mostly useless. Below you’ll find the stats of perhaps the most worthless (or secretly most powerful) mythic unique item in Diablo 4.
- Monday: +1 damage against bipedal opponents (if leg x 2 = damage)
- Tuesday: 10% less bad luck in encounters with distant opponents. A distant opponent is located this afternoon, aligned parallel to the equator, at a distance of 3 to 18 hooves.
- Wednesday: Chance to reduce the opponent’s cooldown (No)
- Thursday: After picking up a legendary item, you will receive 3% increased damage against stunned, penetrable non-elite enemies for 2.5 seconds between 3:00 and 4:00 AM.
- Friday: +10.26% mobility impairment when moving
- Saturday: +1.3% chance to ignore crowd control if you have already been affected by crowd control in Helltide for over 10 weeks.
- Sunday: +51 Life Beyond Death (+ Maybe)
For those who don’t have time to complete the entire secret cow level questline, there’s a shortcut. If you know someone who has finished the questline and unlocked the associated “Moo” gesture, you can skip directly to the final part of the quest by having them use the gesture near you.
After that, all you have to do is write on the Greed Tablet at the Kyovashad gatehouse and then travel to West Skovos, where the Outcast’s Journal is located. There you will find a portal to the Cow Level.
