Amazon Prime Video will support Samsung’s HDR10+ Advanced

Starting at the end of this month, the streaming service Amazon Prime Video will be the first provider to use Samsung’s latest HDR10+ Advanced format for “supported titles worldwide.” However, to use the new format, you will need a current Samsung TV from the 2026 model year.

As the name suggests, HDR10+ Advanced is an evolution of the HDR10+ format. It offers improved overall brightness, which, with the help of enhanced statistical metadata, “optimally utilizes the brightness capabilities of modern premium TVs to deliver brighter and more accurate HDR across the entire tonal range,” according to the official press release.

In addition, AI-powered tone mapping is used to preserve shadow details in darker scenes and to deliver the increased brightness required for sports and action content.
HDR10+ Advanced also features Intelligent Motion Smoothing, which “uses scene-by-scene metadata to allow compatible displays to dynamically adjust motion processing.” This is supposed to “preserve the cinematic feel of film content” while delivering “smooth, natural motion for sports, action, and other fast-paced scenes.”
That Amazon Prime Video is the first streaming service to support the new format is not surprising, as it was already the first to offer HDR10+ in December 2017.
