Apple TV+ now also available for Android phones and tablets
Apple today announced the release of an Apple TV app for Android phones and tablets. The app is now available on the Google Play Store. It gives Android smartphone and tablet users a more convenient way to access the Apple TV+ streaming service, rather than having to go to tv.apple.com through a browser.
Apple TV+ includes a variety of TV shows and movies, MLB’s Friday Night Baseball, and more. The app also provides access to the MLS Season Pass, a subscription service that covers the entire MLS season and playoffs. Android users can sign up with either their Apple account or directly through the Google Play billing system to access Apple TV+ and the MLS Season Pass. In the U.S., the streaming service costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year, while the MLS Season Pass costs $14.99 per month or $99 per season. TV+ is also included in all Apple One subscriptions with other Apple services.
Unlike on Apple platforms, the Android app doesn’t offer access to the iTunes Store to rent or buy TV shows and movies individually. The app also doesn’t display a user’s media library and what content they’ve already purchased. Apple already offered its TV app on Android TV/Google TV devices, but not until now for Android smartphones and tablets. Starting today, however, users of the Android TV/Google TV version of the app can also subscribe to Apple TV+ and MLS Season Pass directly through Google Play’s billing system, with no Apple account required.
Android joins a long list of platforms where the Apple TV app is already available. These include the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, PlayStation, Xbox, Roku and Amazon Fire TV streaming sticks, as well as select smart TVs and more.
