Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Durability test with mixed results
Like several previous generations, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has to face the famous durability test by Zack from JerryRigEverything. The video starts with a joke about reusing the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s durability test from last year. But then the host remembers that not much of the S24 Ultra was left after the test. Samsung and Apple’s recent trend of using titanium is also briefly discussed. However, Zack believes the amount of titanium actually used is more cosmetic marketing material than a real structural improvement. Titanium is only applied to the frame. The buttons are even still made entirely of aluminum.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass Armor 2 display shows scratches at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale in the test, which is slightly worse than last year’s model. The front display remains a 6.9-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole camera. The camera lenses are slightly raised and do not blend smoothly into the frame, making them vulnerable to dust. The rings around the lenses are neat, but can be pried off with a blade as they are only glued in place.
Samsung has removed Bluetooth hardware from the S Pen. No more air gestures, remote camera shutter, or PowerPoint controls. The pen no longer has a battery, but the slot for a battery is still there. Speculation has it that Samsung removed features to boost sales of the Galaxy Rings and Galaxy smartwatches.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra passes the durability test, showing no bending or cracking in the titanium frame despite determined attempts. The Gorilla Glass Armor 2 got deeper grooves in the scratch test starting at level 7. In the fire test, the display shows hardly any burn marks after 30 seconds under a lighter, which is a pretty good score. Even in the bend test, the S25 Ultra maintains its structural integrity and does not bend.
However, the following points stand out in the test: The Samsung logo on the back appears blurry, indicating possible production issues. In addition, the S Pen detection system was partially buggy and sometimes did not recognize the pen in the phone.
