Apple Mac mini M4 review

Apple updated the Mac mini back in November, adding M4 chips and increasing the base memory. MacRumors had already made a first hands-on video back then. A little more time has now passed and the full Apple Mac mini M4 review is ready.
The Apple Mac mini M4 costs from €699 / $599. But you can also spend €1,649 on the top model, which is the only one to contain the M4 Pro chip. Nevertheless, the Mac mini remains the most cost-effective way to get Apple’s new M4 chip. In addition, the design of the device has been revised with the update in 2024. The Mac mini now measures 12.7 x 12.7 x 5 cm, making it more than 5 cm smaller than the 2023 Mac mini M2. While it still takes up more space on the desk than an Apple TV 4K, it also offers a lot of power in an extremely compact package.

With Apple Intelligence and the M4 chip, Apple has increased the base memory in Macs from 8 GB to 16 GB. This also applies to the Apple Mac mini M4, which makes the comparatively low price seem even more attractive, at least in the Apple universe. Of course, you have to bring your own display, keyboard and mouse. But the PC is so small that there is easily room for it on the desk.

If the basic version of the Apple Mac mini M4 is not enough for you, you can also upgrade to the faster M4 Pro. However, if you’re coming from the M2 Mac mini, you’re unlikely to have any speed issues – the M4 models run up to 55 percent faster in terms of CPU performance. The M4 models also have three Thunderbolt 4 ports, but if you opt for the M4 Pro, you get three Thunderbolt 5 ports with faster transfer speeds. There are also two USB-C ports on the front of the mini PCs with transfer speeds of 10 Gbps.
If you’re looking for a desktop Mac, the basic version of the Apple Mac mini M4 is the cheapest option. The performance is more than sufficient for everyday tasks and even for gaming, photo and video editing. And the price of €699 is currently unbeatable.
