The Apple MacBook Pro OLED Touch, which according to current rumors is still under development, will reportedly adopt the iPhone’s Dynamic Island technology and a punch-hole camera, according to Bloomberg. The Dynamic Island replaces the notch, thus creating more screen space for content. Like the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, the Mac’s Dynamic Island is interactive and adapts contextually to the app or Mac function being used.

Apple is also updating macOS to optimize touch interaction. Users can tap or click on screen elements on the Apple MacBook Pro OLED Touch, and the controls adapt to the input method. For example, if a user taps a menu bar item, expanded, touch-optimized controls appear. Touch-based options are integrated into macOS and support iPad features such as pinch-to-zoom and fast scrolling.

The new Apple MacBook Pro OLED Touch will be the first Mac to support touch gestures on the display, despite Apple’s years-long insistence that it would not introduce touch technology to the Mac. Apple did experiment with touch gestures in earlier MacBook Pro models with an OLED Touch Bar, but eventually removed it again because users hardly accepted it.

Apple MacBook Pro OLED Touch more Mac than iPad

However, Apple will apparently not advertise the new model in the same way as the iPad as a device primarily designed for touch operation, but give users the opportunity to use touch and mouse gestures equally for all functions.

In addition to touchscreen and OLED display technology, the first Apple MacBook Pro OLED Touch could also feature a revised design with a slimmer case, but visually still be very similiar to the current MacBook Pro. Apple will not remove the keyboard or trackpad, and the dimensions are also expected to remain unchanged. As is typical for the Pro notebooks, there will be 14-inch and 16-inch models.

Apple plans to update the current MacBook Pro in spring with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The OLED models will instead launch directly with the upcoming M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, based on Apple’s new 2nm process. The OLED models are expected to launch toward the end of 2026. Apple is therefore planning two MacBook Pro updates in 2026.
