Apple iPad Pro M5 with N1 network chip and C1X modem introduced
The Apple iPad Pro M5 is here and, in addition to a new CPU, also features the specially developed N1 network chip and the new C1X model. The M5 is a brand-new chipset that can also be found in the MacBook Pro 14 M5 and the updated Vision Pro headset. It features a CPU layout with up to 10 cores, including up to 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores.
Similar to the M4, Apple again claims that the performance cores in the M5 are the fastest CPU cores in the world. It’s combined with a new 10-core GPU design featuring dedicated neural accelerators in each core. Memory bandwidth has been increased to 153 GB/s, and ray tracing performance has also been improved.
Compared to the M4, the M5 is said to offer up to 3.5 times the AI performance thanks to the new neural accelerators. 3D rendering performance with ray tracing has improved by 1.5 times. The M5 is also 1.2 times faster at video transcoding in Final Cut Pro.
The new M5 chip also offers improved video output capabilities. The Apple iPad Pro M5 models can now output video streams at up to 120 Hz to an external display. Adaptive Sync (VRR) is also supported for compatible displays.
Apple iPad Pro M5 with more storage
In addition to the faster chips, the iPad Pro variants also feature larger storage capacities. The 256 GB and 512 GB models no longer come standard with 8 GB, but with 12 GB, while the 1 TB and 2 TB models remain at 16 GB.
In addition to improving CPU and GPU capabilities, the new iPad Pro models also offer improved connectivity thanks to the integration of the N1 wireless network chip and C1X modem, first used in this year’s iPhone models.
The final upgrade concerns charging. The Apple iPad Pro M5 models now support the same fast charging standard as the iPhone 17 models. With a compatible charger, such as Apple’s curiously named 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, you can charge the 11-inch model to 50% in 30 minutes and the 13-inch model in 35 minutes.
Apart from these changes, the new iPad Pro models are identical to their predecessors with the M4 chip. This means you get the same tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR displays, the same 12MP rear camera and the same 12MP front-facing center-stage camera, a four-speaker system, and Thunderbolt/USB4 connectivity.
Pricing
Prices remain unchanged, starting at €1,099/$999 for the 11-inch model and €1,449/$1,299 for the 13-inch model. The cellular models start at €1,349/$1,199 and €1,699/$1,499, respectively.
