Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: Large camera island like the iPhone 17 Pro
Since the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung’s Ultra models have had the same design for their rear cameras – individual circles for each sensor. However, this could change next year with the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
According to a new report from Samsung’s home country of Korea, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could once again feature a closed camera island, as was recently the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra from 2021.
The reason for this change is apparently to be able to integrate better cameras into the phone’s body. Still, we wonder if the Korean company will once again be “inspired” by an Apple design. Finally, there are now various leaks about the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which also feature a similar design.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: New Camera Design “Inevitable”
The Korean report claims that the enlargement of the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera island is actually unavoidable, “due to the performance improvements of the main camera and the telephoto camera.” The S26 Ultra is also said to have even rounder corners than its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which for the first time dispensed with right angles.
There have already been rumors that the S26 Ultra will feature a new main camera, using Sony’s upcoming 1/1.1-inch sensor with a resolution of 200 MP. This would be the largest camera sensor ever in a Samsung smartphone in terms of physical size.
The new camera module is lightweight, creating additional space under the hood for the sensors. This may simply have been necessary to maintain a flat profile even with larger cameras. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature 60W charging, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, and One UI 8.5.
