Apple iPhone Fold with 7.8 inches, four cameras and Touch ID
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the first Apple iPhone Fold will feature four cameras and Touch ID instead of Face ID. In his new Power On newsletter, Gurman said the four cameras will consist of a front-facing camera, an internal camera, and two rear cameras.
The latest iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad models have Touch ID power buttons, and this feature will likely extend to the Apple iPhone Fold. The foldable iPhone will use Apple’s second-generation C2 modem for cellular connectivity, but it will not have a physical SIM card slot, Gurman said. Apple is currently testing black and white as color options.
Gurman expects the foldable iPhone to have a book-like design with a large internal display when unfolded. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously stated that the foldable iPhone would have a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner display.
For comparison: The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 has an 8-inch main display and a 6.5-inch cover display. Both panels have continued to grow over the past generations, while simultaneously shrinking display bezels.
Apple iPhone Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 without display crease
Kuo said the Apple iPhone Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 will feature a crease-free internal display. Apple will achieve this goal by using a laser-drilled metal display plate that can distribute the stress caused by bending.
Gurman, however, stated that Apple recently switched from on-cell to in-cell display technology and that he believes this change should help make the fold of the foldable iPhone “less noticeable.”
He said Apple plans to launch the foldable iPhone next year. This statement is consistent with almost all previous rumors.
