Apple postpones two new iPhone features to iOS 27

Rumor has it that iOS 26 will feature a glass-like design, new games, preview apps, and more. However, two other improvements have reportedly been postponed until next year. In his list of expectations for WWDC 2025, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said today that Apple has postponed the launch of the revamped Calendar and Health apps until iOS 27 or even later. More time would be needed to develop the planned changes.

Gurman didn’t reveal any specific changes for the Calendar app, but Apple’s acquisition of Mayday Labs in April 2024 could hint at the company’s plans. Mayday Labs developed an AI-powered calendar, task manager, and scheduling assistant for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The all-in-one app used AI to automatically schedule your appointments and tasks at the ideal time. It learned your scheduling preferences and daily habits over time to further optimize your calendar.
The Mayday website stated that the app worked best when used collaboratively. For example, it could automatically schedule a meeting at a time when both you and a colleague were available. For more flexibility, it also offered automatic rescheduling.
iOS 27 with Mayday technology?
The app was discontinued shortly after the acquisition. It is believed that some of Mayday’s features and technologies could be integrated into Apple’s Calendar app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac under the Apple Intelligence umbrella. However, this will likely have to wait until iOS 27.
As for the Health app, Gurman previously reported that it will receive a new AI-powered health coaching feature with personalized health recommendations. He originally expected the overhaul to be part of iOS 19.4 (now iOS 26.4), but now it appears that it, too, won’t be available until iOS 27 at the earliest. That update will be released next year.
