Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro are here
Samsung today launched the Pro versions of the rugged Galaxy XCover7 and Galaxy Tab Active5. The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro offer increased performance and larger battery capacities, as well as upgrades to display brightness, sound systems, and more.
The rugged devices are primarily aimed at corporate and government customers—hotel and construction workers, first responders, and others. As such, they are designed for use in harsh environments and include tailored workplace features not found in traditional phones and tablets.
Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro is now powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, which is twice as fast as the Dimensity 6100+ in the original XCover7. It also comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage, as well as a microSD slot for cards up to 2TB. The battery capacity has been increased from 4,050 mAh in the original to 4,350 mAh. Charging is done via USB-C (3.2) or via the pogo pins designed for use with a variety of docks.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro is dust and water resistant with an IP68 rating (up to 1.5 m for 30 minutes) and complies with MIL-STD-810H. It has also been tested with common disinfectants (ethanol, Clorox, Medilox), making it suitable for use in workplaces where regular cleaning and disinfection are required.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro features a 6.6-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1080p+ (20:9) and now with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It offers Vision Booster (brightness) and Touch Sensitivity modes (can be used with leather gloves up to 2 mm thick). As before, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+.
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro now also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. There are also customizable buttons, the Top Key and XCover Key, to which various functions can be assigned, such as push-to-talk mode for using the phone as a walkie-talkie or code scanner. On the back, there’s a dual camera setup consisting of a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. There’s also a 13 MP front camera. Connectivity includes 5G (sub-6 GHz, SIM + eSIM), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC.
Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro features a larger 10.1-inch LCD display with 1,920 x 1,200 pixels (16:10) and a 120 Hz refresh rate, offering the same touch sensitivity as the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro. This is significantly larger than the 8.0-inch display on the regular Tab Active5. The new panel is also brighter at 600 nits and features improved Gorilla Glass Victus+ (formerly GG5) protection.
The Galaxy tablet uses the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset as the Galaxy smartphone, which can be configured with 6/128 GB or 8/256 GB of storage. It also supports microSD cards with a capacity of up to 2 TB. Samsung has doubled the battery capacity to 10,100 mAh, and the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro is hot-swappable, meaning you can swap external hard drives and external hard drives. The battery can be replaced without turning the tablet off first. Furthermore, it runs directly on power from a wall outlet even without a battery installed. This is intended for semi-permanent installation in vehicles, as a payment terminal, or at work. The tablet supports USB-C (3.2) and pogo pin charging.
Both the Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro and the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro support the Samsung DeX desktop system. They also feature fingerprint and face unlock, as well as Samsung’s security suite with Knox and Knox Vault. Like the phone, the Tab Active5 Pro is IP68 and MIL-STD-810H rated. The included S Pen also has an IP68 rating and has been tested with disinfectants.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro has another trick up its sleeve: The NFC reader can work via the display, simplifying its use as a mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) setup. The customizable Active Key can be configured to launch the mPOS system, scan barcodes, and more. Other connectivity options include 5G (sub-6GHz, SIM+eSIM), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are also stereo speakers with anti-feedback technology to ensure clear voice communication.
Prices
The Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro will launch later this month, but the US launch isn’t scheduled until early June. In Europe, the XCover7 Pro costs €610, and the Tab Active5 Pro (128GB) costs €810.
Samsung predicts that the rugged smartphone market will grow to 4.46 million by 2028, while the rugged tablet market will expand to 1.89 million due to increasing demand from retail, government, logistics, healthcare and manufacturing.
