While the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max aren’t expected to launch until September, there are already numerous rumors about the devices. Here’s our summary of the most important changes planned for the iPhone 17 Pro models according to current rumors.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro Features:

  • Aluminum Frame: The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to have an aluminum frame, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro will have a titanium frame, and the iPhone X through iPhone 14 Pro launched with stainless steel frames. The back of the devices will reportedly feature a new design with a mix of aluminum and glass.
  • Rectangular Camera Module: The camera module will reportedly be larger and rectangular with rounded corners. However, Apple apparently plans to stick with a triangular arrangement of the main camera lenses.
  • More Scratch-Resistant Display: The iPhone 17 Pro displays will reportedly feature a new anti-reflective coating that increases scratch resistance compared to previous models.
  • Larger battery: Rumors suggest the Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a slightly thicker body due to a larger battery.
  • A19 Pro chip: The new A19 Pro chip is expected to power the device, reportedly manufactured on TSMC’s latest third-generation 3 nm process. As usual, slight performance and energy efficiency improvements compared to current iPhones are likely.
  • Apple-developed Wi-Fi 7 chip: Rumors suggest that all four iPhone 17 models will feature a Wi-Fi 7 chip developed in-house by Apple. Apple has previously used models purchased from Broadcom.
  • 24-megapixel front-facing camera: All iPhones are expected to feature an improved 24 MP front-facing camera, compared to the 12 MP front-facing camera on the iPhone 16 models.
  • 48-megapixel telephoto camera: Rumors also suggest an improved 48-megapixel telephoto camera for the iPhone 17 Pro models, compared to the 12-megapixel telephoto camera on the iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • Dual video recording: According to a recent leak from Jon Prosser of the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will also be able to record videos simultaneously with the front camera and the main camera in the iOS Camera app.
  • 8K video recording: Apple has reportedly already tested 8K video recording on the iPhone 16 Pro models. However, such a feature is still not available. Since the Apple iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to have three 48-megapixel cameras on the rear, 8K video recording may be introduced with these devices.
  • 12 GB RAM: An increase in RAM to 12 GB was initially rumored only for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Later, the iPhone 17 Pro was also included. This upgrade is intended to improve the performance of Apple Intelligence and multitasking. All four iPhone 16 models have 8 GB of RAM.
  • Improved Cooling: Rumor has it that all four iPhone 17 models will feature internal design changes for better heat dissipation. There are also rumors of a vapor chamber cooling system for the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.
