The Apple iPad Pro 11 and 13 don't utilize the full power of the hardware under iPadOS. That's set to change with iPadOS 19.

The current Apple iPad Pro has endless power thanks to the latest M4 chipset. Unfortunately, one criticism that keeps cropping up is that the hardware’s capabilities can’t be fully utilized due to the limitations of the iPadOS software platform. But that could soon change.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said today in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that iPadOS 19 will be “more like macOS” in three ways:

  • Improved Productivity
  • Improved Multitasking
  • Improved App Window Management

“I’m told this year’s upgrade will focus on productivity, multitasking, and app window management—with an eye toward making the device work more like a Mac. […] It’s been a long time coming, as iPad Power users have been asking Apple to make the tablet more powerful.”

Unfortunately, Gurman didn’t make any specific statements on the topic. iPadOS 19 will be announced alongside iOS 19, macOS 16, and other software updates during the WWDC 2025 keynote on Monday, June 9.
