Apple iPhone 17 Pro with vapor chamber, Air with “thick” camera
Back in January, we heard that Apple would finally switch from heat sinks to vapor chambers next year for more efficient cooling of the iPhone 17 series. This has been common practice in the Android world for years, and there are even models with active cooling via small fans. According to a new rumor from China, however, only the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will benefit from this technology.
Vapor chambers better dissipate the heat generated by a phone’s chipset, allowing them to run at full power for longer before throttling sets in. The same source also claims that the A19 Pro chip in the Apple iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will also have better thermal management. Combining this information with the new vapor chamber, the A19 Pro should be able to handle extremely high continuous performance with relative ease.
Apple iPhone 17 Air with thick camera module
There’s also news about the Apple iPhone 17 Air. Many rumors indicate that the Air will be 5.5 mm thick. However, according to most renderings, it will have a camera module that protrudes significantly from the back. According to the latest leak, we’re talking about an additional 4 mm, bringing the Air’s total thickness to 9.5 mm.
Previous rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air will only have one camera on the back. It will also reportedly feature a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display, just like the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It will also have a battery with a capacity of 3,000 to 4,000 mAh, which, besides the single camera, is the biggest concession to the extremely thin body. A video featuring dummy models of the new iPhones surfaced earlier this week.
