Apple iPhone Fold / iPad Fold to have 7.74-inch display

The first Apple iPhone Fold has been rumoured for years. According to the latest leak, it will not be released until 2026 at the earliest. Accordingly, little is known about Apple’s first foldable. Now, however, well-known tipster Digital Chat Station claims to have exclusive new information about the device and the alleged size of the display.

The Apple iPhone Fold is described as “Apple’s big foldable device” and has a 5.49-inch cover display. This makes it clear that it is not a foldable iPad, but rather a device “a bit like the Find N“, but shorter and narrower. For comparison: The original Oppo Find N has a 5.49-inch cover display with an 18:9 form factor. Shorter and narrower would simply mean an even smaller front display, although we already consider 5.49 inches to be hardly practical.

The foldable main display of the Apple iPhone Fold is said to be 7.74 inches and to “fold out like an iPad”. Since there is no foldable iPad, that’s a pretty questionable statement. 7.74 inches would be a bit larger than the Find N’s main display (7.1 inches). But if the cover display changes, the rest has to change too, so that wouldn’t be a big surprise. For comparison: The iPad mini (2024) has an 8.3-inch display, but its 3:2 aspect ratio is wider than typical interior displays on foldable devices. The latter are usually almost square – the new Oppo Find N5, for example, has an aspect ratio of 9.9:9.
Even though the Apple iPhone Fold can probably replace an iPad mini, the device from the leak is unlikely to be the also rumored iPad Fold. According to the last tip, the iPad Fold, with a display size of almost 20 inches, is the size of two iPad Pro models side by side. The market launch is supposedly not until 2028, but opinions differ on this point. An Apple iPhone Flip is also in the works.
