Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with new 50 MP ultrawide is here

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is here and it’s everything we expected. Samsung has rounded off the sharp corners to make the big phone more comfortable to hold. This has saved some space and made the new one both thinner (8.2mm vs 8.6mm) and lighter (218g vs 233g) than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The phone still has a titanium frame and lays exclusive claim to the new Corning Gorilla Armor 2, which is more durable than the previous generation’s ceramic glass and still has an anti-glare finish.

The display beneath that upgraded glass is seemingly unchanged – it’s a 6.8-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 1-120Hz refresh rate, Vision Booster and adaptive tint. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra also features the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with 12GB of RAM and a 40% larger vapor chamber for cooling. According to Samsung, the chip has a 40% faster NPU, 37% faster CPU and 30% faster GPU than its predecessor.

The new 40% faster NPU enables a range of AI features based on Google’s Gemini AI. The power button launches features like Circle to Search, which can now recognize phone numbers, emails and URLs to launch quick actions. Multimodal AI agents interpret text, speech, images and even videos for natural interactions – for example, you can ask Gemini to find a specific photo in the gallery. Search is content-aware and suggests your next step – sharing a GIF or saving an event.

There’s call log and summary, Writing Assistant can summarize content and format notes, generative editing is now available on the device. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra also has a Personal Data Engine that analyzes user data on the device and keeps it private in Knox Vault. There’s even something called post-quantum cryptography to protect your data from threats that quantum computers may pose in the future.

Finally, the Now Brief offers a daily summary and proactive suggestions tailored to your needs and preferences. You can get a variety of information such as stock news, weather forecasts, events, and travel information. The Now Brief is also available on your lock screen now. The AI suite is an integral part of the new One UI 7 based on Android 15, which debuts on the Galaxy S25 series. Later, it will also be available on other Samsung phones. Samsung guarantees seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra adds a new 50MP f/1.9 ultra-wide-angle camera to a seemingly unchanged camera system. The rest of the 200MP f/1.7 main camera, 50MP f/3.4 5x telephoto camera and 10MP f/2.4 3x telephoto camera are unchanged, as is the 12MP f/2.2 selfie camera. What is “new” is the next-generation AI ProVisual Engine, which now records 10-bit HDR videos by default (it was disabled by default on the S24 Ultra). In addition, the new Galaxy Log mode is on board, a recording mode with a wider color space for further and more precise color correction. There is also a new Virtual Aperture mode in Expert RAW that lets you control the depth of field. Finally, Portrait Studio lets you create personal avatars using AI.
