Honor Magic7 with SD 8 Elite, Magic7 Pro with 200 MP telephoto camera introduced
Two flagship launches in one year, Honor sees this less as a problem and more as an opportunity to become the second fastest manufacturer with Snapdragon 8 Elite phones after the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. The Magic6 series came out in January. Today, the Honor Magic7 and Magic7 Pro deliver even bigger batteries, faster charging, sturdier casings and more in addition to the new chipset.
Honor Magic7 Pro
Both the Honor Magic7 and Magic7 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and use its NPU processing power for a variety of AI tasks. These range from a digital assistant to improvements in the cameras’ image processing.
The big upgrade on the Honor Magic7 Pro is the 200MP telephoto camera, which replaces the Magic6 Pro’s already impressive 180MP camera. The new sensor is quite large at 1/1.4 inches and sits behind a 60mm lens. This gives a 2.5x zoom at the short end, which you can extend up to 100x with digital zoom. The main camera remains the same with a 50MP 1/1.3-inch sensor and variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/2.0, plus OIS. The ultrawide camera is essentially identical too, with a 50MP sensor and a 12mm f/2.0 lens with a 122-degree angle of view. The ultrawide can also focus to just a few centimeters away to capture macro photos.
The front-facing camera has another 50MP sensor and a wide 90-degree lens with f/2.0 aperture. The pill-shaped cutout also houses the 3D face scanner for secure biometric unlocking. Unlike camera-based approaches, this one works in the dark too, as it has its own IR emitter. However, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor would also work in the dark.
The sensor is integrated into the 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz with a resolution of 1,280 x 2,800 pixels and 10-bit colors (Dolby Vision). The global peak brightness is 1,600 nits, but HDR content can reach up to 5,000 nits. All the light is captured again by the high-frequency PWM dimming at 4,320 Hz when needed. Finally, the display is not flat, but “micro quad curved”.
The battery in the Pro has grown to 5,850 mAh, 250 mAh more than the Magic6 Pro. In addition, charging has become faster – 100 watts wired and 80 watts wireless instead of 80 W/66 W in the predecessor.
Honor Magic7
The Honor Magic7 also has a 1-120Hz LTPO OLED display, this time a flat 6.78-inch panel with 1,264 x 2,800 pixels. This model also switches to an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. There’s no 3D face scanner though, so you only have the fingerprint reader but a smaller hole in your display.
Unfortunately, the standard model loses the telephoto lens, but the rest is basically the same. Instead, it uses a 50MP 68mm telephoto with OIS and 3x optical and up to 50x digital zoom. There’s also a 50MP main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor, f/1.9 aperture) and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera (122 degrees, with macro mode). The selfie camera also has a 50MP sensor and a 90-degree lens.
The Magic7 has a 5,650mAh battery (200mAh more than its predecessor) and supports the same fast charging as the Pro. Again, 100W through the cable or 80W through the air (up from 66W/55W).
It’s also worth noting that the Magic6 had no dust or water resistance rating, while the Magic6 Pro had IP68. The Honor Magic7 and Magic7 Pro go one step further with an IP69 rating, meaning they’re also protected against hot water jets. Another highlight is the satellite connectivity on both Honor phones. However, since this is based on the Chinese Beidou satellite network, it will most likely be limited to China too.
Honor Magic7 prices
The two Magic7 models are available for pre-order starting today and available to buy starting November 8 (Friday next week). The standard version of the Honor Magic7 starts at CNY 4,500 for the base model with 12/256 GB (€585/$630/₹53,000). There are several upgrade options: 12/512 GB for CNY 4,800, 16/512 GB for CNY 5,000, and 16 GB/1 TB for CNY 5,500.
The Honor Magic7 Pro starts at CNY 5,700 for the 12/256 GB model (€740/$800/₹67,250). It goes up to 16/512 GB for CNY 6,200 and 16 GB/1 TB for CNY 6,700.
