Apple MacBook Pro 14″ M4 2024 and 16″ M4 with 12 MP cameras unveiled
Day three of Apple’s “Mac Week” brought more eagerly awaited new additions after the iMac 24″ M4, the Mac mini M4 and iOS 18.1 – the Apple MacBook Pro 14″ M4 2024 and 16″ M4 are here. In addition to the two well-known display sizes 14 and 16 inches, there are three new chipset options: the M4, the M4 Pro, which made its debut with the new Mac mini, and the brand new M4 Max for top-end performance.
Apple’s new MacBook Pros feature the same Liquid Retina XDR display with a resolution of 3,024 x 1,964 pixels on the 14-inch model and 3,456 x 2,234 pixels on the 16-inch model. Both are 120 Hz ProMotion panels with True Tone and cover the P3 color space. The new optional nanotexture option, which is already available on the iPad Pros 2024, provide SDR brightness of up to 1,000 nits and illuminate HDR content at up to 1,600 nits. There’s also a new 12MP Center Stage camera that keeps you in the frame during movement and now offers improved video quality.
Apple says its M4 Pro and M4 Max have faster GPU cores with a ray tracing engine that’s twice as fast and a neural engine that’s twice as fast compared to the M3 series. The M4 Max chipset also offers up to 16 CPU cores and up to 40 GPU cores paired with up to 128GB of memory. In total, that’s 3.5 times the performance of the M1 Max.
Little has changed in terms of ports, however. There is now a third Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port in the Apple MacBook Pro 14″ M4. The left side has the same MagSafe charging port, two Thunderbolt 4 (Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro and Max models) and a headphone jack. The opposite side offers an HDMI port, a third Thunderbolt 4/5 port and a card slot for microSD cards. In addition, you can of course connect wirelessly, via Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
The Apple MacBook Pro 14″ M4 has a 72.4 Wh battery with a 70 watt (M4) or 96 watt power adapter (M4 Pro/Max). The 16-inch model gets a 100 Wh cell and a 140 watt USB-C power adapter. Apple claims that its base model M4 offers up to 24 hours of battery life, while the 16-inch variant with the M4 Max lasts 18 hours on a single charge.
Apple MacBook Pro M4 Prices
All new Apple MacBook Pros are available in Space Black and Silver. The base model MacBook Pro 14″ M4 starts at €1,899 / $1,599 and comes with 16GB of RAM. The M4 Pro upgrade costs an additional €500 / $400, while the cheapest M4 Max model starts at €3,799 / $3,199. Pre-orders are already underway at Apple, with shipping starting on November 8.
Apple also announced that the MacBook Air 13″ M3 and Air 15″ M3 now come standard with 16GB of RAM. Previously, the base configuration only came with 8GB of RAM, while the upgrade to 16GB cost €230 / $200.
