As previously announced, things are happening in Cupertino this week, and the Apple iMac M4 has just kicked things off. In addition to the new M4 chipset, the all-in-one desktop PC has also been given new colors. The Apple M4 chip has up to 10 CPU cores, including four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Microsoft Excel should run 1.7 times faster than on the M1 and 1.3 times faster than the M3 model. There is also a new GPU with up to 10 cores that is twice as fast as the M1 GPU and 1.1 times faster than the M3 GPU when gaming. The M4 also includes an improved Neural Engine that is over three times faster than the M1 NPU.

In combination with the faster chip, the new Apple iMac M4 2024 has 16 GB of system memory as standard. 24 GB and 32 GB are available as options. Storage starts at 256GB and can be configured up to 2TB. The new iMac has the same 24-inch 4.5K Retina display as before, but Apple now offers an optional nano-texture glass that is designed to significantly reduce glare compared to the standard glossy option. This glass costs €230 / $200 extra and must be configured at purchase. This option is not available on the base model.

The new chipset on the Apple iMac M4 2024 has improved connectivity. The premium model has four Thunderbolt 4 ports with Ethernet support and can output to two 6K 60Hz or one 8K 120Hz external displays. However, the base model only has two Thunderbolt 4 ports without Ethernet (configurable separately for $30) and only supports a single 6K 60Hz external display.

Apple iMac M4 2024 with new 12MP webcam

The webcam on the front of the Apple iMac M4 2024 has been replaced with a new 12MP 1080p model that supports Apple’s Center Stage feature, which uses a wide-angle camera to crop and move the frame depending on the people in the picture. There’s also a Desk View feature that can use the camera’s ultra-wide field of view to capture the contents of your desk underneath the iMac and apply perspective correction. The triple microphone and six-speaker array are the same as before.

Apple has also updated the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and optional Magic Trackpad with USB-C ports, replacing the older Lightning models. They’re also color-coordinated with the Apple iMac M4 2024, just like before. There are six of these new colors in total, along with the original silver, which remains unchanged. It took a while, though, and you have to look pretty closely to see any differences.

Most of the shades have changed slightly, and the orange may have gotten a bit brighter. Most of the color changes are on the back, though – the stand and front bottom bezel haven’t changed much.

The Apple iMac M4 2024 costs €1,499 / $1,299 for the base model with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and two USB ports. The model with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, four ports, and the option of nano-texture glass starts at €1,749 / $1,499.
