Oppo Find X8 and X8 Pro with Dimensity 9400 and top cameras are here
Oppo has just announced its new flagship smartphones at a special event in China. The Chinese presented a new design this year with the more compact Oppo Find X8 and the Find X8 Pro. The former has a 6.59-inch LTPO OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The X8 Pro offers a slightly larger 6.78-inch LTPO OLED with the same resolution and refresh rate. However, it is a micro quad curved display that looks like a flat screen but has slight curves on all four sides.
Both panels are designed for a global peak brightness of 1,600 nits and a local peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits for HDR content. They also contain the 32 MP selfie cameras and optical fingerprint scanners. Oppo is also launching its most versatile camera systems to date with the Find X8 series. It starts with the Cosmos Ring design for the camera island. It is significantly smaller than the previous generation Find X7 and has impressive hardware.
The Oppo Find X8 has a 50 MP main camera with a Sony LYT-700 sensor – a 1/1.56 inch chip with a 24 mm lens and OIS. It is coupled with a 15 mm 50 MP ultra-wide angle (ISOCELL JN5) with autofocus. The third camera takes over the 3x periscope telephoto range at 73 mm. This is ensured by a Sony IMX882 sensor with a size of 1/1.95 inch and OIS. It uses a triple prism design that takes up less space than standard periscope lenses.
Oppo Find X8 Pro with two periscope cameras
The larger form factor of the Oppo Find X8 Pro makes room for a second 50MP periscope lens with 6x optical zoom. It uses a 1/2.51-inch IMX858 chip, an f/4.3 aperture, and also has OIS. The 50MP 3x telephoto lens and ultra-wide-angle sensor are identical to the regular Find X8, while the 50MP main camera uses a larger 1/1.4-inch LYT-808 sensor.
Both phones also feature Oppo’s HyperTone image engine. This processes 9 RAW images into each individual photo, ensuring top-notch clarity and high dynamic range while reducing noise and artifacts. Hasselblad portrait mode is also on board, as is Oppo’s new LivePhoto option, which saves short videos before and after a picture is taken.
The Pro model also has a dedicated camera button that Oppo calls the “Quick Button.” It can launch the camera app by double-pressing, serve as a dedicated shutter button, and zoom in and out of shots. Oppo is also bringing back its familiar alarm slider.
The Find X8 series are Oppo’s first phones to run on the new Dimensity 9400 chipset. The chip is coupled with a new cooling system with a graphite layer, a vapor chamber, and a thermal gel inserted directly on the motherboard.
Both phones launch the recently announced ColorOS 15, which brings several AI features alongside a redesigned look. Wired charging runs at up to 80 watts and wireless charging at up to 50 watts, while the size of the silicon-carbon battery is 5,630 mAh on the Oppo Find X8 and 5,910 mAh on the X8 Pro. Additionally, both new models are water and dust resistant to the IP69 standard.
Oppo Find X8 pricing
The Oppo Find X8 comes in Starfield Black, Floating Light White, Chasing Wind Blue, and Bubble Pink. Prices start at CNY 4,199 (€546/$590) for the 12/256GB version and go up to CNY 4,999 (€650/$700) for the 16/512GB variant. The Find X8 Pro comes in Hoshino Black, Cloud White, and Sky Blue. Prices start at CNY 5,299 (€689/$745) for the 12/256GB variant and go up to CNY 6,799 (€884/$955) for the 16GB RAM and 1TB version, which also offers satellite communications.
Shipping in China begins on October 30. Both smartphones will be available outside of China at some point. There will also be a Find X8 Ultra model, but not until sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
