Apple iPad mini (2024) is here: A17 Pro chip, double memory and Wi-Fi 6E
The new Apple iPad mini (2024) is here, which we only know from a boring press release. There was neither an event nor a livestream, which may be because it is one of the smallest updates in the history of the iPad. The most important innovation is the Apple A17 Pro chip, which premiered on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max last year. The new mini replaces the clearly outdated 2021 model and is also expected to get Apple Intelligence. And it will be available as early as this month, when the gradual introduction of iPadOS 18.1 starts on October 28th.
In addition to the more modern chip, the new Apple iPad mini (2024) has 128 GB of base storage instead of the previous 64 GB. Apple has also updated the network interfaces – both Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 and a faster USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port are on board. In addition, the tablet offers support for the Apple Pencil Pro pen and is available in a new blue color, alongside the previous options of purple, starlight and space gray.
The rest of the technical data is identical. This includes the 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1,488 x 2,266 pixels and an aspect ratio of 3:2. The refresh rate is still limited to 60 Hz, as Apple continues to limit ProMotion (120 Hz) to the iPad Pro 11 and Pro 13. The two 12 megapixel cameras have also been adopted from the previous generation Mini. However, in the Apple iPad mini (2024) they benefit from the better ISP (Image Signal Processor) of the A17 Pro chip with Smart HDR 4 support.
Apple’s Touch ID system for biometric unlocking and app purchases is of course still part of the game. As is the familiar 19.3 watt-hour battery, which Apple claims will last for 10 hours of browsing or video playback over Wi-Fi. The retail package also includes a 20 watt USB-C power adapter.

The Apple iPad mini (2024) starts at €599/$499/£499 for the 128GB model with Wi-Fi. The 5G version is available for €769/$649/£649. Pre-orders open today, with shipping and open sales expected to begin on October 23.
