Samsung Galaxy S24 FE with Exynos 2400e and 6.7″ display announced

After months of leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is finally here. The new Exynos 2400e chipset is under a 6.7-inch AMOLED display.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, with a larger 6.7-inch display, a correspondingly larger battery, a focus on improved performance and the ProVisual Engine, is here. There will be no regional differences in chipsets this year – the S24 FE is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2400e, everywhere. Samsung didn’t provide details, but the main Cortex-X4 core is likely to run at a lower clock speed.

That could affect peak performance. But sustained performance is boosted by a new, 10% larger vapor chamber. In the absence of an Exynos 2300, last year’s Galaxy S23 FE had to rely on a mix of Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Both are 2022 chips, so the performance increase from the S23 FE to the S24 FE should be clearly noticeable.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE only has 8 GB of RAM on board, the same as the regular Galaxy S24. There will be versions with 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB of storage. However, the RAM capacity has no impact on the smartphone’s Galaxy AI functions.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE has a 6.7-inch display, 0.3 inches larger than its predecessor. This gives it the same diagonal as the S24+, but this is an FHD+ OLED panel instead of QHD+ with LTPO technology. The display runs at 120 Hz or 60 Hz and has the Vision Booster for bright, sunny days.

ProVisual engine

Samsung has brought the ProVisual engine from the flagship series to the FE series. This combines Nightography (AI ISP that improves shots in low light conditions) with an object-aware engine that optimizes colors in Super HDR. In addition, the system offers a 2x optical-quality zoom.

This comes from the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE’s 50MP main camera (f/1.8). An additional level of zoom is available with the 3x 8MP telephoto module (f/2.4). Or you can go even further with the 12MP 123° ultra-wide angle lens (f/2.2). The selfie camera has a 10MP sensor. This appears to be exactly the same hardware as last year, except this time it has more processing power and the ProVisual engine running in the background.

The battery now has a capacity of 4,700mAh (+200mAh compared to the S23 FE). Charging rates remain the same, however. Typically for Samsung, the Galaxy S24 FE draws just 25W via cable (0-50% in 30 minutes) and just 15W wirelessly. Samsung packs the whole thing into a 162.0 x 77.3 x 8.0 mm package that weighs 213 g. That’s 4 mm taller, less than a millimeter wider, and slightly thinner than the S23 FE. The S24 FE also gained 4 g compared to its predecessor. Incidentally, the Galaxy S24+ is narrower thanks to slimmer bezels and also 17 g lighter. The battery also has 200 mAh more capacity.

Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), and Bluetooth 5.3. As before, the case has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (1.5 m/5 feet underwater for 30 minutes).

The Galaxy S24 FE runs Android 14 and OneUI 6.1 at launch, with Android 15 just around the corner. The good news is that the FE gets the flagship treatment and will be updated across seven OS generations. Accordingly, Samsung also promises seven years of security patches.

The Samsung phone’s AI features include the usual Galaxy AI options. Circle-to-Search looks things up on Google, Live Translate translates calls in real time and now in select third-party apps. Composer is a Samsung keyboard feature that can write emails and social media posts for you based on a few keywords. Note Assist automates note formatting, transcription and summarization of voice recordings, and can translate PDFs.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is available for pre-order starting today and will be available to buy starting October 4. The base model starts at €749 / $650. Note that the 512GB version is not available in some regions.
