Apple AirPods Pro 2: Hearing aids at a bargain price?
On Monday, Apple also announced a very special update for one of its headphone models at its big launch event. The Apple AirPods Pro 2 will get a new hearing aid mode, which will be available as a software update. This function has now been approved by the FDA, so the release should not be long in coming.
This makes the Apple AirPods Pro 2 one of the cheapest hearing aids on the market, whether specifically designed for this purpose or not. And they are also very good earphones for playing music and various other media, as our Apple AirPods Pro 2 test against the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro showed.
Apple’s hearing aid function can be configured in two different ways. You can either carry out a hearing test yourself with the AirPods Pro 2 and an iPhone, or use the data from an audiogram from a hearing care professional. The adjustments based on the hearing test or audiogram then automatically apply to all content. Music, films, podcasts, but also the transparency mode.
According to Apple, the hearing aid function will be available in more than 100 countries and regions in the future. However, it only works with iPhones with at least iOS 18. Speaking of which: The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system will start on September 16.
