Huawei Mate XT Ultimate next to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6

Huawei has just launched the world’s first triple-folding smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate. It folds into three parts and is still barely thicker than the previous market leader in the segment, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. The following image was posted on Reddit and sums up Samsung’s problem perfectly.

On paper, the situation looks like this: The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate is 12.8 mm thick, while the Fold6 measures 12.1 mm. Point for Samsung. In the image above, however, you can see that this 0.7 mm difference is barely noticeable to the human eye. Added to this is the fact that the Huawei folds into three parts and the individual parts are therefore significantly flatter than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. The Huawei smartphone has a total of 10.2 inches compared to 7.6 inches for the Samsung phone.

Now the question naturally arises as to whether the Mate XT Ultimate is as robust and durable as the Galaxy Z Fold6. The Samsung device did quite well in the durability tests and didn’t make any major mistakes. This is also because Samsung has kept the same form factor since the first Fold in 2019 and has continued to improve it. It is highly doubtful that the Huawei device will be just as stable despite being made of significantly less material.

On the other hand, Samsung’s Folds have looked the same for many years. They tend to only receive small updates year after year. Even home-made problems, such as the large gap when folding, have persisted over several generations. Not to mention the camera setup, which is average at best.

In fact, innovations tend to come from Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei and the triple-folding Mate XT Ultimate. Or from Honor with the extremely thin Magic V3.
