Google introduces compact Pixel 9 Pro and large Pixel 9 Pro XL
The Google Pixel 9 Pro with a 6.3-inch display and the Pixel 9 Pro XL with a 6.8-inch display are here. These displays are high-brightness (up to 3,000 nits) Super Actua LTPO panels with a 1-120 Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. The 9 Pro’s 6.3-inch panel has a resolution of 1,280 x 2,856 pixels, while the 9 Pro XL increases to 1,344 x 2,992 pixels. Google also unveiled the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Watch 3.
Both Google Pixel 9 Pro finally ditch the optical fingerprint scanners and instead rely on an ultrasonic scanner, which Google says is 50% faster. The design is based on flat bezels with a shiny, polished metal look. The two Google phones actually look identical, aside from the size difference. They also have identical triple camera modules on the back.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL have 50 MP 1/1.31-inch wide-angle main cameras. There are also two 48 MP 1/2.55-inch cameras for the ultra-wide angle and 5x telephoto zoom range. All rear cameras benefit from laser-assisted multi-zone LDAF focus. On the front, a new 42 MP camera snaps selfies.
The new Tensor G4 chipset takes over the drive. The 4 Nm chip has a Cortex-X4 main core with up to 3.1 GHz, three Cortex-A720 with up to 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A520 cores with up to 1.95 GHz. There is also the Titan M2 security coprocessor. Both Google Pixel 9 Pro models also have 16 GB of RAM and 128 GB to 1 TB of storage. The new, more efficient Exynos 5400 modem is also on board.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro has a 4,700 mAh battery, while the 9 Pro XL increases the capacity to 5,060 mAh. Both smartphones support 45 watt wired charging, which means that 70% of the battery’s capacity ends up in the battery after 30 minutes. Google’s Gemini AI also plays an important role, of course. You can ask Gemini to give you cooking ideas based on a photo of your refrigerator contents. At the same time, the Magic Editor removes distracting elements from photos or adds a dramatic sunset.
Circle to Search is also available. Simply press and hold the navigation bar at the bottom and then search for something on your screen to get Google results on it. Finally, Google provides 7 years of software support for the Pixel 9 series.
Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL: Pricing
The Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL come in four colors – Obsidian, Hazel, Rose Quartz and Porcelain. Pre-orders are already open, while the XL will ship from August 22. The Pro will hit shelves a little later – September 4 in the US and September 9 in Europe. Both phones get 1 year of Gemini Advanced and 2TB of cloud storage for free.
The Pixel 9 Pro starts at $999/£999/€1,099 for the 128GB model, climbing above $1,099/£1,099/€1,199 for 256GB to $1,219/£1,219/€1,329 for 512GB. The XL is priced at $1,099/£1,099/€1,199 with 128GB. $1,199/£1,199/€1,299 is the price for 256GB and $1,319/£1,319/€1,429 for the 512GB model. The top-of-the-line version, priced at €1,689, offers 1TB of storage. There is a limited-time offer with £100/€100 off the 256GB model and £200/€130 off the 512GB model. You can save €150 on the 1TB model.
