Report: All Apple iPhone 17 models with 24 MP front camera
All four Apple iPhone 17 models will launch with an improved 24-megapixel front camera, according to a new report from analyst Jeff Pu. But it will be some time before that happens – the 17 series will launch in September next year according to Apple’s normal release schedule.
The information comes from a research note for investment bank Haitong, which was leaked to MacRumors. In it, Pu published a table indicating that the Apple iPhone 17, the new iPhone 17 Slim, and the Pro and Pro Max models will get a new 24-megapixel front camera with six plastic lens elements. For comparison: All iPhone 15 models have a 12-megapixel front camera with five plastic lens elements.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed back in January that at least one Apple iPhone 17 model will get a 24-megapixel front camera with a six-part lens. Therefore, there are now two confirmations of this upgrade. According to Kuo, the new selfie camera will “significantly improve image quality.”
With a higher resolution of 24 megapixels, photos can maintain their quality even with more cropping. This would give the Apple iPhone 17 models more flexibility in post-processing. A six-element lens would also slightly improve image quality. Each element is designed to correct various aberrations and distortions. As a result, you get clearer and sharper photos.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to launch in September 2025, so it’s still over a year away. Rumors about the iPhones coming two generations later always start quite early. Apple designs products long before their release and develops the first prototypes.
