Samsung Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro with better sound and blades are here
The new Samsung Galaxy Buds3 series has “blades” – that’s what the Koreans call the stems that they have long done without on their earbuds. You can squeeze the blades together to control playback and swipe up and down to adjust the volume. The new buds also come in redesigned charging cases and have a variety of AI features.
Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro
The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro have 2-way speakers with 6.1 mm planar tweeters and 10.5 mm dynamic bass, as well as two amplifiers. The SSC codec has been updated to support double the sampling rate for improved sound quality. In addition, active noise cancellation is of course also on board and the microphones constantly monitor the environment with functions such as active noise control, siren detection and voice recognition. The latter two automatically pass on ambient noise so that you don’t miss important events.
Additionally, a machine learning model helps with noise coming from the other end during a call. It has been trained to recreate a natural-sounding voice even when the sound comes from a noisy environment. With the Super Wideband feature, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro can transmit voice at 16 kHz, twice as much as regular Bluetooth buds.
The style of the Galaxy Buds3 Pro is complemented by the exclusive Blade Lights. This is a strip of light that runs along the edge of the stem / blade. You can use the wearable app to customize the lighting style.
Samsung Galaxy Buds3
The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 are the cheaper option. They only have 1-way dynamic speakers in 11 mm, but still offer Adaptive ANC and Adaptive EQ to adjust the sound depending on environmental factors. They also have an open design that is more comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. The channel design of the Pro models, however, offers more passive noise isolation.
The redesigned cases have transparent tops and the same 515mAh battery capacity. However, the Pro earbuds have a slightly larger 53mAh battery in each earbud and can last up to 6 hours with ANC enabled and a total of 26 hours with the help of the charging case. With ANC disabled, you can get up to 7 or 30 hours. The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 have 48mAh batteries in each earbud and promise 5 / 24 hours with ANC enabled or 6 / 30 hours with ANC disabled.
Both new Samsung buds support Galaxy AI features like interpreter mode. Listening mode lets you use your Galaxy smartphone and earbuds to listen to an audio source in a foreign language and get a live translation into your native language.
Samsung used a computational design for both earbuds to ensure a better, more comfortable fit. This time, both Buds3 models are equally dust and water resistant – IP57 (versus IPX2 on the Buds2 and IPX7 on the Buds2 Pro). However, this only applies to the buds and not the charging case. Additionally, the earbuds are made from recycled plastic from discarded fishing nets and water barrels.
The Buds3 series is available for pre-order now and will be available from July 24. There are two color options: silver and white. The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro are priced at €250/$250/£220, while the regular Galaxy Buds3 are priced at €180/$180/£160. That’s $30 more than the Buds2 models.
