Lighter Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 with new aspect ratio is here
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 saw the light of day today at the Unpacked event in Paris. The Samsung phone is thinner, lighter and offers a new screen aspect ratio. It is powered by the current top Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The interface is Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 with the latest Galaxy AI features straight from the company’s development department.
The most important change in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is the new aspect ratio of the cover display. It is still a long way from normal smartphones, but at 22.1:9 instead of 23.1:9 it is already much more usable. The diagonal has also increased slightly to 6.3 inches, which is also very good for the panel.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is 1.5 mm shorter and 2.9 mm wider (1 mm when folded) than the Galaxy Z Fold5 when unfolded. It is also 0.5 mm thinner when unfolded (1.3 mm when folded). But more importantly, it’s 14g lighter than its predecessor. In fact, at 239g, it’s getting close to the lightest foldables on the market, and it’s also only 7g heavier than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
You also get a new hinge and Samsung even included a vapor chamber that’s 1.6 times larger than the Fold5 to further improve heat dissipation. The Fold6 is also IP48 certified, making it the first foldable to be protected against dust. While it only guarantees protection against solid particles over 1mm in size, that’s still better than anything else we’ve had before.
Inside, you get a 7.6-inch foldable display (or Infinity Flex, as Samsung calls it) with a 20.9:18 aspect ratio. Both the main and cover screens are based on Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz. The cover display and the back of the Samsung smartphone (when folded) are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2.
Little news in the camera department
The five cameras on board the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, on the other hand, bring hardly any hardware upgrades. You still get a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera with OIS on the back. There’s also a 10-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens with three times optical zoom and a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera with a field of view of 123 degrees. A 10-megapixel selfie camera is housed in a hole on the cover display. The main display hides a 4-megapixel under-display camera instead.
The 4,400 mAh battery with 25 watt wired charging, 15 watt wireless charging and 4.5 watt reverse wireless charging is also nothing new. However, battery life is expected to be longer thanks to improved efficiency. There is also a long software support window of seven major Android updates.
Samsung also spoke at length about the advances of Galaxy AI. They touted the productivity of the Galaxy Z Fold6 thanks to the large display. Note Assist and Circle to Search are carried over. However, the new features of One UI 6.1.1 based on Android 14 make better use of the foldable form factor. In interpreter mode, both parties can display translations on the main and cover displays. In addition, Sketch to Image creates sophisticated works of art from sketches from the gallery or notes thanks to AI.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 comes in three storage options – 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB, each with 12 GB of RAM. The main color options are Silver Shadow, Pink and Navy, with Crafted Black and White available directly from Samsung.com. Prices start at €1,999 / $1,899.99. Pre-orders are open now and general availability begins July 24. However, there are already various Samsung deals directly from the manufacturer.
