Just a few hours ago, a new rumor made the rounds that Apple would only announce new hardware this week via press release and without an event. And today that’s exactly what happened. There are still no new iPads in sight, but the company has introduced the new Apple MacBook Air M3.

There are two sizes – 13 inches and 15 inches. These notebooks are pretty important for Apple because the 13-inch MacBook Air is the best-selling notebook in the world and the 15-inch model is the best-selling 15-inch notebook in the world.

Both use the Apple M3 chip, making them “up to 60%” faster than the model with the M1 chip. Compared to the last MacBook Air with an Intel processor, which is already several years old, the jump is up to a factor of 13. The Retina display offers a brightness of up to 500 nits and supports 1 billion colors on up to two external displays (when the lid is closed). You get a “up to 2x higher resolution than on comparable PC laptops”.

The Apple notebooks offer a battery life of up to 18 hours, Wi-Fi 6E, two Thunderbolt ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. There is also a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, an array with three microphones, speakers with support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos, and Touch ID.

Apple MacBook Air M3 prices

The Apple MacBook Air M3 is available in four colors: Midnight (with an anodizing seal to reduce fingerprints), Starlight, Space Gray and Silver. Official sales start on March 8th, while pre-orders are already open today in 28 countries. Prices for the 13-inch MacBook Air start at €1,299.00 / $1,099 and for the 15-inch model at €1,599.00 / $1,299. The 13-inch version with the M2 chip is also still available from Apple for €1,199.00 / $999.
