iOS 27: Dedicated Siri app with automatic chat deletion function
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will introduce an improved Siri in iOS 27 with a dedicated app that allows users to save conversations in memory for a limited time. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman writes that Apple intends to highlight its expertise in data privacy as a key advantage over its competitors when implementing AI in its software.
Apple is aware of the perception that it has fallen behind other companies in the race to integrate AI into its operating systems, and will therefore make data privacy a central part of its approach – starting with giving users the ability to automatically delete chats.
According to Gurman, who cites his sources, users can specify in the settings of the new Siri app whether conversations should be saved for 30 days, one year, or indefinitely. A similar feature is already available in the settings of the Messages app.

Gurman also mentions that users can choose whether the Siri app displays either an overview of previous conversations or a new chat screen.
Siri uses Google Gemini by default
Apple’s improved Siri is powered by Google’s Gemini models, but Apple will apparently not highlight this, given Google’s historical reputation as an advertising-driven company that collects user data. Furthermore, users have the option to chat with Claude or ChatGPT instead.
Another interesting piece of information from Gurman’s latest newsletter: Despite two years of delays, the new app will be labeled “Beta.” Apple recently agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class-action lawsuit in the US over the delayed Siri features. This could mean that eligible iPhone users face a payment of up to $95 (€82).
