The update that some Marvel’s Wolverine players have been waiting for is finally here. The latest patch for the superhero game offers the option to disable directional aids like scent trails, which will hopefully make the game feel a bit less linear.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a fairly linear action game in which players are guided by Wolverine’s senses in many places. In the game, these senses manifested as scent trails that showed players where to find whiskey bottles, audio cues to supply crates, and roots that led them to doors in the Nightmare Trials. While these clues prevented players from getting lost, they also led to complaints about the game’s linearity.

Since its release, some players of Marvel’s Wolverine have been requesting that Insomniac Games make features like scent tracking optional. Around the time of release, the developer stated that they were looking into implementing an option to disable these Wolverine senses. An update on September 18 improved the visual representation of the senses, and with update 1.001.006 on September 25, players can now turn them off completely.

While some senses that Insomniac considers “story-relevant” will remain in the game, players can now access a dedicated section for the senses in Marvel’s Wolverine’s gameplay settings and disable individual senses. The patch also fixes several crashes and bugs that caused players to get stuck, see misaligned claws in photo mode, or mistakenly assume the game used generative AI due to a faulty restroom sign.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to play this PlayStation 5 exclusive, now is definitely the best time since its launch. The full patch notes are below.

Patch notes for Marvel's Wolverine Update 1.001.006:
