Fallout Season 3: What is known so far
Although the second season of Fallout has ended, the story of Lucy (Ella Purnell), the ghoul (Walton Goggins), and the other inhabitants of the Wasteland is far from over. The final episode of Fallout’s second season provided some surprising answers, but above all, it raised a number of questions about what will happen in Fallout season 3.
In the coming months, there will be plenty of time to discuss open questions about the plot, develop theories about the future of New Vegas, and debate in detail why Thaddeus (Johnny Pemberton) is the most important character in the series. Currently, however, we are primarily interested in what has been confirmed so far about the third season of Fallout.
Production hasn’t started yet, so details are scarce. However, since the second season has already finished, we’ve compiled all the information we have about what’s next for Fallout and when you can expect it.
Has Fallout season 3 been confirmed?
Amazon confirmed Fallout Season 3 some time ago. Back in May 2025, the company announced that Fallout would continue beyond the second season. Regarding the potential runtime, Maximus actor Aaron Moten previously stated that he was offered a story arc for his character spanning five or six seasons.
What will the plot of Fallout Season 3 be about?

In summary, however, it can be said:
- Lucy and Maximus are reunited at the beginning of Fallout Season 3.
- The ghoul’s search for his family continues as he makes his way to Colorado and the enclave (even if he may stray from the path).
- Stephanie – the one-eyed Canadian overseer of Vault 32 – is Hank’s pre-war wife, and both have ties to the Enclave. She instructs the Enclave to begin “Phase Two,” but we don’t know what that means.
- Hank activated a number of mind-control devices throughout the wasteland, including his own, thereby erasing his memory.
- War breaks out in New Vegas when Caesar’s reunited Legion (led by Macaulay Culkin’s Caesar) battles the New California Republic for control of the city of New Vegas.
Where and when will filming for Fallout Season 3 begin?
The third season of Fallout is currently in pre-production. According to a statement from the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA), filming for season 3 will begin on May 1st. Production returns to California, where season 2 was filmed. Shooting will commence in Santa Clarita, which also served as a filming location for a large portion of season 2. It is still unclear whether the New Vegas Strip set – originally built in North Hollywood, California – will also be used as a filming location.
Who is directing the third season?
The production list notes the return of Frederick E.O. Toye as director. Toye, who is also an executive producer on the series, has already directed five episodes of “Fallout,” including the premiere and the season two finale. Although he won’t be directing the entire season, Toye appears to be confirmed for the premiere.
How many episodes will Fallout Season 3 consist of?
The number of episodes for the third season has not yet been announced. However, the first two seasons of the series followed an eight-episode format. Logically, one would assume that season 3 would have the same number of episodes. However, it’s not unusual for streaming series to change the number of episodes over time. Stranger Things alternated between eight and nine episodes per season, while the second season of The Last of Us had two fewer episodes than the first.
When will the third season of Fallout be released?
The release date for Fallout Season 3 has not yet been announced. However, since there were less than two years between Seasons 1 and 2, it is very likely that the series will return at the end of 2027. Until then – here are all easter eggs from season 2.
