Blizzard’s extensive efforts regarding the new housing feature in World of Warcraft continue. During the State of Azeroth stream on Thursday, Executive Producer Holly Longdale noted that WoW with the Azeroth Interiors Competition will soon break new ground in the field of competitive interior design: a “global renovation challenge” for community creatives equipped with “mood boards and design skills”.

The invitational competition takes place from February 17th to 24th and brings together creative individuals from around the world in six teams of two, each consisting of a “homeowner” and a “builder.” The competition begins with a presentation of real Pinterest boards, followed by the building projects and a final livestream featuring jury evaluation and tours of the six houses. The winning project will be featured as a unique property on the real estate website Zillow.

World of Warcraft Housing Trailer

Blizzard is heavily emphasizing the housing system in its World of Warcraft advertising this expansion cycle, somewhat overshadowing the other new content and changes of the Midnight expansion released on March 2nd. The State of Azeroth stream concluded with an elaborate new housing trailer produced by Blizzard’s top-notch cinematics team. It shows an adventurer taking a spiked armband from a defeated enemy and then returning to her cozy home in a bustling neighborhood, where she uses the armband as a coffee pot stand.

Fittingly, given the housing theme, Longdale revealed that Blizzard’s next fundraising campaign will support the housing organization Habitat for Humanity. Players can participate by purchasing Roofus, an adorable dog wearing a hard hat and tool belt, who naturally comes with some decorative items for your WoW home.

All active subscribers who log into WoW between the State of Azeroth stream and the launch of Midnight will be rewarded with a Dark Portal decoration item – a replica of the iconic monumental portal to Outland/Draenor that first appeared in Warcraft 2 and led players to adventures in the Burning Crusade and Warlords of Draenor expansions, as well as on the original WoW login screen.

If all of this has made you want to return to World of Warcraft – or try it for the first time – there is a free welcome weekend available now until Sunday, February 1st.
