Nintendo Switch 2: Wi-Fi 6, NFC and 2x USB-C
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be released in a few weeks, after Nintendo will announce further details about the next generation of the hybrid console in early April. In advance, an FCC certification reveals information about the functionality of the two USB-C ports and the wireless functions of the console.
The FCC has received certification for the successor to the current Nintendo Switch OLED and the associated documents show some of the console’s features. Both the Switch 2 itself and the Joy-Con controllers support Bluetooth, including Bluetooth Low Energy and Bluetooth EDR, to create a reliable and energy-efficient connection.
The upgrade of the console from Wi-Fi 5 to Wi-Fi 6 is nice to see, but it lacks support for newer standards such as Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7. It’s a shame, because the additional 6 GHz channel of Wi-Fi 6E could significantly improve the download speeds of games. The FCC certification shows that both the USB-C port on the bottom and the port on the top of the console can be used for charging. Interestingly, the USB-C port on the top can also be used for charging when the console is docked.
Nintendo Switch 2 with 60 watt USB-C charger
The Nintendo Switch 2 could possibly be charged with a 60 watt USB-C charger, rumors suggest. In addition, the right Joy-Con has an NFC chip that will presumably be used for Amiibo communication to continue to give players access to Amiibo features, including the free items in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
More about the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be revealed in the next Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. Nintendo is expected to finally reveal the release date and price of the hybrid console at that time. A date in May or June is being discussed, with a price of 399 euros.
