Popular Delta Emulator 1.6 for retro games officially comes to iPad
The popular Delta Emulator, which was a hit with retro gaming fans on the iPhone, is now officially available for the iPad following an app update to version 1.6. Delta has been hugely popular since its debut on the App Store and the emulator is constantly present in the top charts. You can play retro games from the NES, SNES, N64, Nintendo DS, Game Boy and also the Game Boy Advance.
With iPad support in Delta Emulator 1.6, users can now take full advantage of the device’s larger display and play in full-screen mode. There are also new controller skins specifically for the iPad. The app also supports multiple windows in Stage Manager and Split View, with games optionally pausing when switching between windows. The iPad version also supports external game controllers. According to developer Riley Testut, you can seamlessly transfer emulated games between iPhone and iPad and continue playing on the new device.
Testut says that the need for BIOS files is now eliminated, simplifying the setup process. Users should also notice a significant improvement in DS game performance. The update introduces various menu button gestures and offers more intuitive navigation options. It also adds an experimental feature called “Reverse Controller Skin Screens.” This allows one to switch between controller skin screens at runtime, offering more customization and flexibility during gameplay.
Testut previously stated that Delta Emulator 1.6 for iPads was not initially a development priority. The original plan was to restrict the emulator’s launch in the EU via the alternative app marketplace AltStore PAL. But that one does not support iPads.
However, to everyone’s surprise, in April Apple finally decided to allow retro game emulators on the App Store after many years. Delta was therefore made available on the App Store as a free download in the US and other countries. Users support the developer via Patreon.
