First Game of Thrones movie will be released in 2029

The HBO series “Game of Thrones” is officially coming to theaters. Warner Bros. announced on Tuesday that the first feature film in the franchise created by George R.R. Martin, “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest,” will be released in spring 2029. A former series employee will direct: Owen Harris will helm the first film in the series.

Harris previously directed three episodes of the HBO television series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”: “The Hedge Knight,” “Hard Salt Beef,” and the action-packed episode “In the Name of the Mother,” which depicted the bloody trial of the Seven. Harris’s film is written by Beau Willimon, the creator and writer of the Netflix series “House of Cards” and six episodes of the Star Wars series “Andor,” including the critically acclaimed prison break story “One Way Out.”
What is Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest about?
Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will focus on Aegon I, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and founder of the Targaryen dynasty. Aegon I, the Conqueror, is the first Targaryen king, having united Westeros with his dragons Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. The events of Aegon’s Conquest take place approximately 100 years before House of the Dragon (and 300 years before Game of Thrones).
“Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” will be released in theaters on June 1, 2029. Casting and production details have not yet been announced. The series will continue on television in 2027 with the second season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” The fourth and final season of “House of the Dragon” is expected to air in 2028.
