Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” spin-off, “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.” It offers the kind of unrestrained violence and old-school coolness one expects from Quentin Tarantino. The trailer shows former Hollywood stuntman Cliff Booth, once again played by Brad Pitt, engaging in all sorts of violent escapades while taking on odd jobs for the film industry.

The story takes place in 1977, eight years after the previous film. For those unfamiliar with the film: “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” tells the story of stuntman Cliff Booth, whose path crosses with that of a notorious cult.

A striking element of the Netflix trailer is the reference to one of the most controversial scenes from the previous film: Cliff’s fight with Bruce Lee. Some, including Lee’s estate, criticized Lee’s portrayal in the film, depicting him as an unlikeable braggart who gets beaten up by Cliff. While it could be argued that Cliff was an unreliable narrator and the fight wasn’t meant literally, Tarantino couldn’t resist commenting, calling Bruce Lee “pretty arrogant.” Tarantino recently faced further criticism after abruptly accusing Paul Dano of “ruining” “There Will Be Blood.”

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth: Netflix brings David Fincher

David Fincher is directing “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.” It’s his third consecutive film for Netflix, following “Mank” (2020) and “The Killer” (2023). Tarantino, who directed and wrote “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” also penned the screenplay for “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.” It’s his first film since “From Dusk Till Dawn” (1996) that he wrote but didn’t direct. In an interview with Deadline, Brad Pitt explained that Tarantino “didn’t want to direct,” which is why Fincher stepped in.

Tarantino hasn’t confirmed why he didn’t want to direct the film, but it could be because he didn’t want to break his own “ten-film rule.” This rule states that he will retire from the film industry after making that many films. Technically, he has already directed ten films, but not according to his own count, as he considers “Kill Bill” to be one film that was split into two parts.

Besides Brad Pitt, who returns as Cliff Booth, the Netflix film stars Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Scott Caan (Ocean’s Eleven), Carla Gugino (Sin City, The Fall of the House of Usher), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man) and many other actors.

“The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will be shown exclusively in IMAX for two weeks starting on November 25, 2026, before being streamed on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
