Star Wars “The Mandalorian & Grogu”: Can Grogu speak or not?

The upcoming Star Wars film “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” featuring bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his companion Grogu, is getting closer and closer. We already saw a Super Bowl trailer, an interview with Creator Jon Favreau, the appropriate Lego set and a second, significantly better trailer. But now Grogu fans are preoccupied with a completely different question: Will the little guy say more than just baby babble in his cinematic debut?

In an interview with Variety, he said Kathleen Kennedy, former president of Lucasfilm and legendary producer of films such as E.T. and The Goonies, on how it felt to hand over the reins to current Star Wars Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and current Lucasfilm Business President and CEO Lynwen Brennan. She also spoke about her time as head of Star Wars, which will conclude with The Mandalorian and Grogu, as well as next year’s Star Wars: Starfighter.

However, the biggest news for die-hard fans of the lively little green guy is this: Grogu will only utter incomprehensible babble during the series “The Mandalorian and Grogu”.
“Grogu is another perfect example of a character who needs to show emotion and connect with you, and he doesn’t speak a single word,” Kennedy told Variety when asked what it was like to hear Grogu speak for the first time. The former president also confirmed that Grogu will not learn to speak in the film, which is set to be released in May.
Star Wars has done it again
The fact that Grogu can’t speak like other characters, such as Din Djarin, isn’t exactly surprising. Star Wars has always produced characters who, although we don’t understand them, express emotions through their sounds and facial expressions, making them unforgettable. Just think of the astromech droid R2-D2 or the grunts and yells of Han Solo’s sidekick Chewbacca. Given the abundance of Grogu merchandise slated for release alongside the film, it’s no wonder Lucasfilm wants to capitalize on Grogu’s endearing slang as much as possible.
Nevertheless, it is a disappointing turn of events for Star Wars fans who would have liked Grogu to speak so that we could learn more about his thoughts and feelings and thus make him more of a character than a mascot.
Even though Grogu can’t speak in his film, that doesn’t seem to stop him from taking on crime bosses and Imperials. Starting May 22nd, the day of the film’s premiere.
