War Machine: Netflix mixes Reacher with Metal Gear and Predator
Netflix’s next big action movie War Machine by Director Patrick Hughes places an elite team of soldiers in a Predator-style jungle, where they are hunted by a Terminator-like mechanical monster whose design strongly resembles Metal Gear. The lead actor is none other than Jack Reacher himself: Alan Ritchson.
The trailer begins with all the typical Metal Gear elements: A soldier awakens under a grey sky in tall grass, only the back of his head is visible, and comrades train close combat in a combat circle. Ritchson’s character is in a training camp and hopes to join the US Army Rangers.
In the final selection process, the exercise suddenly becomes serious for him and his elite team. Deep in the jungle, they stumble upon an alien machine built solely for destruction and accidentally activate it. Their simulated test turns into a fight for survival.
War Machine meets RoboCop
The bipedal monster can fire lasers and bullets and track organic objects with a blue beam that sounds like a circular saw, searching for life. The team eventually finds themselves stranded without communication devices, flares, or firearms, meaning Ritchson and his companions must find their own way out of this predicament.
Apart from the fact that “War Machine” has the same name as the Netflix original film from 2017, he actually looks quite exciting. Director Patrick Hughes is an experienced action director who previously directed “The Expendables 3” and “The Hitman’s Bodyguard”.
Aside from the Metal Gear aspect, the film feels like a mix of two of the best science fiction action films of all time – or even three, considering that the titular machine is more reminiscent of ED-209 of the original “RoboCop”. War Machine is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on March 6th.
