Spotify brings “About the Song” and “Now Playing” screen with lyrics
Spotify has been very busy lately. Following the official launch of Page Match, the company is now introducing About the Song, a new feature touted as “a new way to discover the stories behind the music.” There’s also an update to the “Now Playing” screen.
Spotify About the Song explains the meaning of the lyrics
The About the Song feature displays short, swipe-searchable story cards in your “Now Playing” view, which “shed light on the meaning behind the music you’re currently listening to.” The stories are compiled from external sources “to provide interesting details and behind-the-scenes insights,” according to the official press release.
To see this, open the Now Playing view and scroll down to find the About Song card, which appears for supported tracks. About Song is currently in beta and is being rolled out in English to Spotify Premium users in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia on iOS and Android.
Spotify update displays song lyrics directly in the “Now Playing” screen
Spotify has also uploaded an update that displays song lyrics directly on the “Now Playing” screen. The update appears to be server-side and has already been discovered by some Reddit users.
They noticed that the current lyrics are displayed directly below the album cover on the main “Now Playing” screen. The window with the full lyrics is still located below the “Now Playing” screen if you wish to view them while listening to a song.
Users can disable the new song lyrics if they don’t like them. Additionally, the size of the song lyrics can be adjusted in full-screen mode – a feature that was already noticeable in the Spotify beta app.
It will probably take some time for these updates to reach all users.
Spotify has been working hard on new features lately. The new lyrics view complements the recently added “Pompted playlists“, which can use AI to create a playlist for you based on a prompt.
