Spotify Friend Listening Activity finally also available on mobile phones
Spotify is bringing its long-standing Friend Listening Activity to its mobile apps, so you can now see what your friends are listening to on the streaming service while you’re on the go. For years, users of the Spotify desktop app have been able to view their friends’ listening habits via a “Friends Activity” sidebar, but this feature was previously unavailable in the iOS and Android apps.
Those already familiar with the listening feature won’t be surprised by the mobile version. In the app’s sidebar, next to the news feed, you can see what others are currently listening to. By tapping the title, you can listen to it yourself, add it to your library, or react to it with emojis.
The Friend Listening Activity feature remains optional and can be activated in the app settings under “Privacy and Social.” There, you can also start a private session, which temporarily hides your listening activity from your followers. Private sessions end automatically after six hours. Additionally, you can specify which artists should be displayed most recently on your profile.
Spotify also brings Jam Requests
How The Verge As reported, this update also includes the “Jam Request” feature. Premium users can now tap the “Jam” button in chat to send a request. If the other person accepts the request, their listening habits will be synced with yours, and you can add songs to the queue together and discuss the currently playing tracks.
The app also suggests songs based on your shared musical tastes. Users of the free Spotify subscription can be invited to jams, but cannot start their own jams to invite others.
The “Listening Activity” and “Request Jam” features are now being rolled out to users on iOS and Android in markets where News is available. Most recently, Spotify launched Prompted Playlists and its Wrapped overview.
