Google Drive adds Google Vids integration for quick video editing
Google Drive has recently become increasingly user-friendly for video uploads. Recently, Google added automatic subtitles, a new visual design, instant playback of newly uploaded videos, time-stamped transcripts, and even YouTube-style thumbnails to its cloud storage platform.
The latest addition is Google Drive Vids integration. Users of eligible Workspace domains will soon see a purple Google Vids icon in the top right corner when a video is open in Drive. Clicking it uploads the video to Google Vids, allowing you to trim it and enhance it with media content such as music, additional text overlays, and more.
Google Vids offers relatively simple editing tools, but has the advantage of being entirely cloud-based. Once editing is complete, a new Vids file is created, so you’ll need to save or export your work separately. Perhaps Google can smoothen this process even further in the future by allowing in-place editing.
Google Drive Vids: Maximum 35 minutes and 4 GB
The new integration is subject to some limitations. It only works with MP4, QuickTime, OGG, and WebM videos that are less than 35 minutes long and less than 4 GB in size. As mentioned above, you should not integrate the new integration with your free Google Drive account. The following workspace domains are allowed:
- Business Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus
- Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus
- Nonprofit organizations
- Customers with the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on
- Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers
- Customers who have already purchased add-ons for Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise
Users of these apps can expect to see the integration within the next 15 days. Of course, the feature works best on the desktop, but theoretically, mobile browsers should also be able to make some quick edits with enough eye blinking and precise typing.
